Rode 366km from Vienna to Budapest , average day of cycling was 60km per day. I made sure I had padded cycling shorts as well as a Gel Seat Cover for my bike, especially over the long days and distance. Good 3 star accommodation, basic, but very clean, a few locally owned and run. Great Group of people were on our tour, age ranging from 35-69, everyone looked out for each other and got on really well. Be prepared to ride through fields, rough tracks and on the main highway and through the city, I loved the variety of the cycling
Highly recommend cycling Danube. It was my first intrepid cycling tour, I felt it was an easy, but long rides. Best if you can practice before, with some long rides. The tour guide, has good knowledge of history of Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.
This was my first solo travel, first Intrepid trip and I loved every minute of it. Our guides were knowledgeable and attentive, and I learned about the history of the places we visited from them. We biked a lot and I will miss the great mountain bikes we used. I always felt safe because we stayed together as a group, helping each other especially in the large urban Budapest area. There were many high fives and long goodbyes for our group.
Intrepid are a good company to travel with. The trips are in the price category that suits me.
This trip is rated based on lots of biking trips around the world and the biking trips Intrepid offers. It is a “3” on their scale…lots of riding, but no hills,
We enjoyed the cycling thru fields forests villages and cities even though our bottoms got sore. We definately needed the mountain bikes.
People who take a bike trip should be in good shape
First Intrepid trip, but overall a great trip. Beautiful scenery, especially the last day riding to Budapest. You need to be a confident rider as the terrain runs the gamut and 7 long days in the saddle. I would highly recommend the E-bike option, especially if you are not accustomed to riding for several long days. April weather was perfect!
The trip was great, just make sure you do a bit of practice, and if your feeling tired, just get on the bus.
Intrepid is a great way to travel in a small group for an affordable price. You tend to meet more like minded people while enjoying a cultural mix of travel companions. I had never done a bike trip, but this was definitely the right decision!
New friends and great memories. Cycle the Danube was true and authentic travel experience that ticked all the boxes for me. I’d highly recommend cycling it adds a whole new dimension to your travel experience.
Intrepid Travel tours are perfect for solo travellers small groups make it easy to get to know each other, went past some tour groups that had 30 people on the trip and thought how would you remember everyone by name.
Trip is hard and challengeable but it was great, leader Toni was very nice guy, always look after you and helpful if you have any questions, just ask.
Highly recommend a trip with Intrepid. One of the best vacations in my life. We had an excellent trip leader and support team as a result everyone on the trip completed the tour without getting in the support vehicle;)
The cycling tour was wonderful! We had a good group with nice people from all over the world, we got new friends, the bikes were new and perfect, the food amazing and the weather sunny with perfect temperature. The hotels were excellent and familiar. The only exeption were Hotel Atlas in Budapest. That one was in a bad condition (for example the carpets) and the breakfast room was crowded. But this is complaining on a high level. As I already wrote: it was just a great cycling trip! Thanks to Intrepid and to the safe driver and excellent tour guide we had! Everytime once again. 🙂 Remo, Switzerland
Biking is such a great way to experience a region. A really unique trip!
This tour exceeded my expectations. I am not a very experienced cyclist, and while this tour was a challenge, it was still so enjoyable for me. The group leader and quality of the bikes were excellent, and I got to see a glimpse of a less-travelled part of Europe.
This is a cycling trip. While a flat ride, distances are long and conditions, such as heat and head winds, are challenging. The scenery is nice, not spectacular. I expected to see and explore pretty villages, but these are few. The Hungarian cuisine is dull. Cultural opportunities were limited.
Fantastic adventure!
