Sri Lanka

1. Bodhi Baum

Transport in Sri Lanka

Unterbringung in Sri Lanka

Gibt man in Sri Lanka Trinkgeld?

Überall in Sri Lanka findet man Hocktoiletten. Denke daran, Toilettenpapier und Seife mitzubringen. In einigen touristischen Regionen, Fünf-Sterne-Hotels und schicken Restaurants findet man auch unsere klassischen Toiletten.

Was kostet ein…?

Softdrink = 100 LKR Bier = 200-250 LKR einfaches Mittagessen in einem Restaurant vor Ort = 300 – 400 LKR Meeresfrüchte-Dinner = 1,000-1,500 LKR

One of the main reasons I travel with Intrepid is the small group size, as well as not having to pay for a single supplement. While I also travel as an FIT, it is great to have accommodation/transport etc organised, as well as a guide – just makes life a bit easier.

Circle Sri Lanka is an amazing trip – a well thought out and well balanced itinerary that allows you to see all aspects of Sri Lanka. Our tour leader Cham was amazing – made our trip so enjoyable – knowledgeable, thoughtful, funny! Would highly recommend this trip.

A fantastic trip for foodies, you have no idea of the variety of ‘curry and rice’ there is available until you learn to cook them Lovely way to see the country and get a feel for the real Sri Lanka

This was an excellent tour. The food, cooking and accommodation were amazingly good. The tour leader was brilliant in his organisation, in his demeanor, and the way he introduced us to the culture and people of Sri Lanka. I can’t recommend this tour enough. Memories for a lifetime.

The Circle Sri Lanka trip was a wonderful experience for us. It combined visiting ancient archaeological wonders, interaction with the local people, travel on local forms of transport, seeing wild animals, trekking in tea plantations, relaxing on the beach and visiting areas of more recent European history.

Great jam packed trip that covers the main sights, regions and cultures of Sri Lanka in the comfort of private air-conditioned transport and really nice hotels. Trip includes several authentic, traditional meals in various local family’s homes, which is an amazing unique and delicious experience that regular tourists would not find! Highly Recommended

Intrepid are simply the best! If you want a great flavour of the local culture and want to experience everything there is to offer within a country without the stress of all the organising and planning, then i would highly recommend a tour with Intrepid. Their tour leaders are brilliant and are incredibly insightful, helpful and friendly. Doing tours like these mean you don’t only get to experience a whole new country (or a few!) which for wanderlusters like me is reward itself, but you’re also given the opportunity to make amazing new friends and share those all important travel experiences together. It’s a very special dynamic and you’ll come back with heaps of memories to treasure!

An excellent introduction to Sri Lanka. While the trip covers a lot of ground and many locations and appears pretty “full-on” it was surprisingly relaxed and we never felt rushed. There are several very early starts but this wasn’t a problem as we tended to go to bed fairly early after very full days of activity. The logistics and itinerary have been well thought out. Mathisha, our tour leader, was outstanding.

Circle Sri Lanka

Circle Sri Lanka is such a culturally rich tour. Organisation and guide direction are second to none, especially if you have Mattisha! The accomodation is a good standard, too. Such exellent value for money. You’ll come away wanting to return to a country that is rich in history and cuisine. The only criticism I would make is that we needed less time in Mirissa and more time in Galle.

This was my third journey with Intrepid and each one has been well organised from airport pickup to return journey home. I really like the small groups and have made some great friends along the way. I enjoy the different modes of transport from bus, train, bicycle, car, local bus and camel. We have stayed in some amazing accommodation, castles and glamping in India, beautiful tiled hotels in Morocco and balconys overlooking the mountains in Sri Lanka. I also relate to the ethics of looking after the planet. Look forward to my next adventure and am sure that wherever that will be it will be as fantastic as the rest. Thanks Intrepid

All in all a great trip! A really nice blend between physical activity and seeing some of the amazing country side and some interesting cultural experiences. The knuckles mountain ranges are stunning. The food – particularly for the camping elements was exactly what I came for: amazing local food. One of my highlights was an impromtu cricket match with some Tamil friends as we cycled through a tea plantation. Overall I give it a SIX! (in the cricketing sense)

If you are fit Circle of Sri Lanka is a great trip and a must to do. Avoid intrepid. Massive money grabbers. One girl paid for a private transfer with them which was 10 times more than the taxi but then was forced to share??! I had a bereavement and was told I had to go on the trip or lose everything. I needed to book a new flight and the office could not tell me whether I was allowed to join the tour late or not – I was calling an international number for 30 mins and got no answer!!! They forced us to tourist traps not on the itinerary with the sole intention of selling us stuff. Totally boring. The local offices speak very very poor English so if anything goes wrong you’re alone. I go away 7 times a year as a teacher and wouldn’t dream of using intrepid again. Go look into g adventures.

Circle Sri Lanka provides a brilliant, and I think realistic, overview of Sri Lanka: its history, culture, religions, nature, animals, crops (e.g. tea and spices), transport, food, and people. You’re always on the move, but that allows you to see so much, and there are ample opportunities to delve deeper.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful place with friendly people. Visits to local families homes was a great experience to learn how Sri Lankan food is really made. Cave temple was the highlight of my trip, train ride had the best views. While in Kandy shop in the markets, best place to get souvenirs. While in Yala National park was able to see elephants, a bear, 2 leopards, variety of deer, water buffalo, crocodile & lots of birds, take your binoculars! Paradise beach in Marissa was my favorite location because the beach was fabulous. Trip was beyond expectations, a once in a lifetime experience, book!

Loved the Variety of the Intrepid Tour of Sri Lanka over 16 days, this included, Trekking,Cycling,Cooking,Local Tourist attractions as well as travelling on local Trains and buses. I felt safe the whole time while in the tour-single traveller. Active tour, mainly for the trekking and climbing of lion Rock, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. I did need my wet weather gear and hiking shoes while on the trek, it was slippery in some places. Hotels were 3 star, basic, but very clean

Circle Sri Lanka gave a great insight to this beautiful country with a good mixture of temples, wildlife and scenery. Definitely do the optional elephant safari. Don’t have a massage at the place where you stay after the first hike, wait until you get to the beach and go to the Badora Spa. The hikes were good but accommodation not so great and too much free time in places with nothing to do but then longer in Galle would have been nice. I think Intrepid need to look at this part of the trip, perhaps going straight to the beach after the second hike or staying in Ella. However a lovely country.

This is a good trip to take when the southwest monsoon makes the southern cities very wet. It has a bit of everything – culture, countryside, beach, wildlife and history. Highlights were cycling around the Buddhist monuments at Anurahdnapura and Polonnaruwa; and hiking through the lush green hill country tea estates near Haputale. What a great balance of all the best things on this magical island! Ancient history and colonial architecture, food and wildlife, exercise and relaxation, jungles and beaches and a beautiful hike through misty tea plantations. This tour of Sri Lanka was a fantastic introduction to the country. It’s quite intense as we were often on the move, so packing light is a very good option. We were well looked after and well informed every step of the way so were able to really get the best out of the time we had.

What a destination to visit! Sri Lanka has it all and to have cycled made it even more of an adventure. We cannot recommend this trip enough. Our leaders Sam, Kasun and the support crew were wonderful and had our best interests and safety in mind at all times. This was my first bicycle trip and it did not disappoint me. I visited many ancient sites, saw elephants in the wild and dined with locals. Sightseeing, a glimpse into Sri Lankan culture, and a lot of delicious homemade food. Tips if you are going in April like we did: wear clothes you can sweat in and bring insect repellent and sunscreen. Also, drinks always cost extra (unless it’s bottled water), but they can be worth it in the heat. The meals contain a lot of coconut and coconut milk, spices, and chilies, although the hotels generally also offered Western style breakfasts if you prefer that. Overall, I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it.

Fantastic way to experience the wonderful nature/ wildlife – and immerse yourself in the diverse culture – of Sri Lanka. GO NOW while it is still relatively undeveloped. Read the trip notes carefully. Although you wiLL have an opportunity to pay a “guide” to assist with with climbs to Siguriya and the Golden Temple sites, you do need a reasonable level of fitness and be able to manage steep and at times uneven pathways to and from private homes independently.

Highlights were the cooking activities at the many houses we visited. It was great to learn about traditional ways of cooking and learning about local ingredients. I would have expected to be cooking ourselves more, but i guess some of us were also fine watching 😉 The train trip was another highlight: spending hours on the train watching the green hills pass by and buying tea and snacks from the vendors. Sri Lanka, wow! Beautiful country, wonderful friendly people, amazing food, great weather, fantastic temples and sites, very reasonable prices and in our case, a good group with the best Leader in Sam. I loved seeing the change in country side this trip. The sun is hot in Sri Lanka, so it might be useful to pack some long sleeve loose tops for riding in rather than all singlet tops. Also pack shorts/pants/sarong that go over your knee, as you will visit a few sacred sites and will need to cover up – knees and shoulders covered. Pack lots of sunscreen, I was surprised at how much I used.

Sri Lanka is a fascinating destination, which is very safe and easy to travel around. There are many interesting things to explore including the history, culture, food, customs, animals, beaches and natural parks. The many smells and colours will mystify you.

Once again we had a wonderful trip with Intrepid . Simply Sri Lanka was our third trip with Intrepid. Our tour leader went above and beyond when I became sick. He visited me in hospital before the tour even started and then organised special transport to take us to catch up with the group a day later. Thank you so much Thilantha Ray & Jodie

Excellent trip , good mixture of activities and a great group and tour leader. I personally would have liked longer in Ella and Galle and two beach days.

Our trip to Sri Lanka was as wonderful as we had hoped, we had an excellent balance of culture, adventure and relaxation. Travelling with other families worked really well, the kids all got on fantastically which made it much more relaxing for us

Sri Lanka is a very beautiful, colourful and peaceful country to visit. Its people and landscape have so much to offer from their ancient and recent history. The national parks abound with impressive wildlife and are easily accessible. Circle Sri Lanka gives a great overview of this wonderful country, its people, its wildlife and its landscape. Intrepid should run a nature tour of Sri Lanka alongside its historical sites. Id love to spend more time visiting the national parks and think their would be plenty of nature lovers out their that would think the same.

Our trip to Sri Lanka was brilliant . I had never travelled with intrepid before but was very impressed with all aspects of it . The itinery was just what had been sent to us .The guide was incredible and we had a very safe driver of the minibus and a lovely guy who provided us with a beautifully clean bus and a flower to greet us everyday .They also took our luggage to and from the hotels and we never had to worry about it or carry it which was a huge help .The hotels we stayed in were first class and all had lovely swimming pools .A really great trip I would definitely recommend it especially as we went off the beaten track a bit travelling to the north of Sri Lanka

Intrepid is a great way to travel. There are opportunities to meet with locals, and share your experiences with other travellers in a culturally sensitive and aware way. Also, lots of fun!

Sri Lanka is a wonderful, brave little country still coming to terms with tourists. The locals are so friendly, polite, modest and keen to hear about the rest of the world. They live a simple life, one of tea, curry and cricket! We enjoyed seeing a lot of the country in just 2 weeks, the diversity, culture, widlife and history. A real treat, affordable and well paced. We felt safe and relaxed and as usual with intrepid, our guide Ananda was fantastic.

My trip with Intrepid was an enjoyable one, I got to know Sri Lanka in an interesting way, meeting people and getting to know their ways and food preferences at the same time. Intrepid gives you the opportunity to travel through a country while experiencing the local customs.

This food tour was a great experience and you gained experiences with local families you would struggle to have travelling independently. Our group leader was extremely knowledgable and had some great experiences to share. Overall this was an unforgettable experience and it was hard to leave my tour driver, assistant, leader, and other travellers behind.
