Just had a brilliant trip to EBC. Loved every minute ever of it. Intrepid run an amazing tour. Would recommend to anyone searching for a challenging adventure.
Read the trip notes on the website for packing suggestions.
This is the third Intrepid trip weve taken and theyve all been very well organized with passionate, enthusiastic leaders as our guides. With this particular trip there was quite a bit of down-time in the tea houses I wish we would have planned better for this by bringing some games (we did buy some cards), but it wouId have been nice to hike a little longer each day and have less sitting around in the freezing cold. I do feel there is a lot of value included in these trips as far as the guides and country experience go. This was definitely a trip of a lifetime and we wont hesitate to use intrepid again in the future.
If you choose Intrepid you will not be disappointed. Your travels will be both enjoyable and free from worries.
This is a great adventure, quite demanding physically with lots of stairs to climb and descend but the scenery varied and the mountain views breathtaking.
Our trip was varied. We all felt like we had been away for s month rather than only 10 days because we had had such ride and varied experiences. Our guide could not have been any more perfect!! Loved it!!
For my first but not last trip it was a great experience made especially fulfilling thanks to the professionalism of our guide Nabin and the fantastic company of others in the group
Great trip for people who like a variety in activities. Fantastic mix of City and rural experience and a great short experience of Nepal!
Overall excellent. Tiring. Well organized. Very caring. Guides and assistant guides fantastic. Everything was done to ensure safety of all and to overcome difficult situations relating to weather. Do not be ashamed or afraid to ask for help or state that you can not finish your goal. People do die on this trek when they go beyond their limits. Intrepid do look after you. Great group all around. Just do it do not hesitate. Do not over pack.
Take some gaffa tape and blister packs!!! Also a water filter is helpful rather than the tablets
Great trek and itinerary but if you’re fit and a confident traveller I’d recommend doing this trek on your own.
An interesting country to visit although it was very hot and dusty as it was nearly monsoon season, which meant there were less tourists which was a plus.
Our Annapurna Circuit trek was a once in a lifetime epic journey. Intrepid did a very good job in the itinerary. By starting at a lower elevation then hiking to each stop as we proceeded to Thorong La, allowed us to acclimate as well as condition ourselves for the long challenge ahead. Furthermore, our trek leader Surya Jimee and the assistant leaders Nara and Ishwar really made the trip enjoyable and they all provided excellent leadership and supervision of our group. Their enthusiasm and friendliness as well as good nature was constant and is one of the major memories that all of us within the group will always share.
Morocco, New Zealand, Australia 2x, India and Nepal. These tours I had with Intrepid and they were always awesome. Great group dynamic and great guides.
Excellent trip for those who want a good overview of Nepal and its wonderful people and culture, and who are unable, or do not wish, to trek
What an amazing Trip. I loved it all but the stand out was hiking through those amazing mountains. Nepal is incrediable with beautiful people. Intrepid take care of everything just bring a positive attitide , your gear and a smile and you will love this trip!!! See you next year for another adventure.
I came out from the sanctuary by helicopter, and was home a week earlier than planned. Intrepid handled my change of plan excellently, both on the mountain and in the Hotel and I am pleased with my decision to come out early
Intrepid gives us the chance to go where alone you would never go !
Nepal and the Annapurna Circuit in particular, are like no other place in the world. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience that is not to be missed.
This is a beautiful and challenging trip which took us right from the foothills of the Annapurna region right up to the almighty Thorong La Pass (5416m). Our leader taught us everything we possibly wanted to know about the region from flora and fauna to the geographical sites and cultural and religious things along the way. And I loved our group of like minded travellers along with our porters and two assistant guides. Couldn’t recommend this trip more I’d you love a physical challenge and want to learn everything about your immediate environment! I was fascinated round every corner. Top tip: eat cinnamon buns in Manang, try Tibetan bread at any chance possible and look out for vultures and eagles flying high above. Also recommend to byo teabags if you love herbal teas because hot water is always available (at a cost but still useful for easily rehydrating once it starts getting cold!).
A beautiful scenery trek, staying in local villages. Enjoyable walking with amazing mountain backdrops.
True experience of real life and real people of Himalayas with excellent group leader Raj, two super helpful assistants Min and Ritesh and smiling, dancing and singing porters. Physically tough, but the same time inspiring and very satisfying trip. Every tough day was worth the views and beauty of the nature. Highly recommended for the adventurous people. 🙂
Everest Base Camp was an amazing trip! We had a fantastic local guide and assistant guides who looked after us. Would highly recommended intrepid for Anyones trip to Nepal!
This was a great 11 day Trek. The views are amazing and the 168km distance you travel is very satisfying. The elevation changes are significant from day to day and you should be in good condition for lots of stairs up and down. Very safe location to travel in a small group.
I’ve previously trekked Everest, Annapurna and Lantang. The Tamang Heritage trail was amazing….my favourite Nepal trek to date. Completely untouched by western civilization and not another tourist in sight. Beautiful people and stunning scenery.
Experience Nepal is a great trip to undertake to get a taste of the Nepali society and culture. Kathmandu is a very easy city to visit and one that I enjoyed very much.

As a first time trekker (let alone at altitude) I was extremely impressed by Intrepid and this tour for the following reasons: 1. The main guide, assistant guides and sherpas were all very knowledgeable, experienced, helpful, friendly and just fun to be with 2. Accommodation and the trek are all well organised and planned out. The majority of the tea-houses were also more than I expected (i.e. some had hot showers and pretty good wifi for remote locations) 3. Good, sensible pace for all types of trekkers. Remember “slowly, slowly,” it’s not a race and just take in the spectacular views during the trek 4. The variety of terrain and scenery during the trek. Nepal and the Himalayans is a magical place Tips include: 1. Invest in good socks not just footwear. Would suggest merino wool (comfortable, breathable and odourless). I used Icebreaker and Macpac brands and did not get one single blister 2. Suggest following the Trip Notes albeit the suggested meal allowance is a bit high. US$40 per day is sufficient if you’re not an alcohol drinker 3. Bring a drink bottle to allow refiling of water instead of buying plastic bottles on the trek to be environmentally friendly. As you ascend, the locals either bury rubbish in the ground or worse burn it Nepal is a beautiful country with super happy people however it is a developing country so please keep that in mind. I would highly recommend this trip to others thinking about it and would say your mental ability to complete the tour is more important than your physical ability
When travel in Nepal, Make sure you don’t touch cold meat, uncooked food or raw salad ANYWHERE!! Not even a seemingly fancy expensive hotel. Follow everything your guide has told you! They are reminding you of it for a reason~ The Annapurna Circuit is absolutely worth it, and if you wanna see more culture than just wanna conquer a mountain or reach a goal. This trek is for you! Don’t blindly follow the name and go to the Everest Base Camp but missing all the village, monastery, cattle, baby goats and baby Yaks you can see along the way 🙂
Annapurna Sanctuary trip was amazing. A lot of stairs! 8 days up to base camp and 3 days back to Pokhura. You will learn to love Nepali flat, it’s respite from the stairs! The guides were fantastic, super knowledgeable and helpful in all areas. I was surprised how good and varied the food at the tea houses was. A trip well worth taking.
The experience Nepal trip is a great insight into life in this fascinating country. There is a perfect mix of culture and activities.
Our wonderful guide led us through Nepal telling and showing us about Nepalese people and their way of life, religion and culture. This trip has a great balance of information and experiences from hiking to the Namobuddha temple, to running the rapids on the Trisuli River. I have no hesitation in recommending this trip to anyone.
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a fantastic once in a lifetime experience. You need to both physically and mentally prepare yourself for the journey but it’s definitely worth it! The views are spectacular, guides and porters are great, and you also get to learn a bit about Nepalese culture on the way. The accommodation is basic and the food gets a bit repetitive in the tea houses, but if you hire a decent sleeping bag (and buy a liner) and take some extra snacks with you you’ll be fine! Also make sure you have a good buffer at the end of the trip – flight cancellations to/from Lukla are common due to weather (clouds) and you may need to extend your stay by several days.
Great company, great guides, great experience. Thanks Intrepid.
The trip in the Himalaya was a life experience. A great opportunity to learn about life in Nepal while enjoying incredible scenery and hiking with a great group of enthusiastic explorers. The outstanding trip leader (Bimal) and his excellent team made the experience even more enjoyable.
The Annapurna Explorer was a physically challenging but incredibly rewarding and wonderful experience. Jaw dropping scenery of the Himalayas, delicious dal bhat, the kindness and openness of the people and culture, incredible staff and a fun group of people made this a trip Ill never forget.
Urban Nepal (Kathmandu, Pokhara) was quite the culture shock. The trek itself was amazing, but be prepared for itinerary changes due to weather/transportation issues.
This is an incredible life changing experience. The Intrepid staff were amaZing and the clear itinerary meant that we had plenty of time to acclimatise, have breaks and really embrace the Nepali culture. Hot tip: bring loads of wet wipes and muesli bars to snack on!
Highlights – Everest flight, rickshaw ride round Kathmandu at night and sunrise and mountain walk in Pokhara. Nepal is an amazing, beautiful country, rebuilding after terrible earthquake in 2015. The Nepalese are lovely people and you will enjoy the adventure.
A great, life changing experience spend with even better people who you are traveling with or meeting along the way.
This Everest Base Camp trip was excellent overall. The guides and team were extremely attentive in all respects and made the overall experience very enjoyable.
Intrepid is very on point with trip explanations. Call them if you have further inquiries.
The trip was epic! The most fulfilling thing i have done in my life! Loved it!
Great company and crew full great people
Intrepid is such an amazing company to travel with, particularly if you are a hiker. I have done 2 trips with them now (Peru and Nepal) and I cannot reccommend them enough. The guides and team become your family and leave such a strong and lasting impression. I will 110% be travelling with intrepid again in the near future.
Visit my blog www.nemesispt.weebly for a better kit list!
An awesome holiday. Be prepared for alot of up and down walking. Loved all of it!
A great experience, meeting and interacting with a different culture. A shame it was only two weeks.
I was a bit disappointed when I found the other team members paid $500 less than me, so I expect I will get better deals in my future trips.
Impossible to sum up in a few words or paragraph! If you want to be completely overwhelmed by the beauty of this planet, just GO. And if you want to do it safely with a group of awesome other travellers, go with Intrepid. My advice to anyone wanting to do this is the same advice the person who inspired me to do it said right before I booked “DO IT. Don’t even think about it, just book it!” I’ve done a video diary and a blog post which I’ll be publishing soon on my personal blog if anyone wants an idea of what it’s like. 🙂
Over-all, this has been a great trip. The leader and the guides are all very good and took care of all our needs. I also like how they managed some uncertain conditions like the flights to Lukla Airport – which by itself is very stressful since it always involves much waiting and too much uncertainty due to weather conditions. But they kept us updated and well informed and also let us know about alternatives in case we don’t get our flights to /from Lukla. Healthwise, I noticed that almost everyone got some kind of cold and cough symptoms. There should be more discudsion about this in the trip info – what medicine to bring, etc. since it would help the participants a lot. If I have known, I would have brought my own anti-biotics and cough suppressant. Other than this, everything went perfect.
An absolutely excellent bucket list trip! Perfect itinerary, spectacular scenery and a caring, enthusiastic trek leader who made the trip.
Safe, cost conscious and fun adventure for people of ALL ages.
Well organized, prepared, and knowledgeable- Intrepid has you covered. Really, all I had to worry about was my physical fitness on the hike. Intrepid took care of the rest. Amazing and knowledgeable guides make a difference! A sure, safe bet.
So, you are contemplating EBC?? Start training, get your gear organised and then just do it. To spend 2 weeks at walking pace, discovering your own strengths and weakness and those of the group you are with, to test your metal and physical ability whilst viewing the world’s greatest mountains is truly amazing and an experience unlike anything else i have done this far in my life. The people of Nepal are humble and generous….. and ohhhh…those mountains!! it has been my dream for well over 35 years to do this trek….and nothing disappointed; despite AMS, a tummy bug and the hardship… it is truly my biggest achievement.
I feel there should an extra day spent at Gokyo Lakes to assist with acclimitisation and to give better rest for those who complete the Gokyo Ri trek. The trek is not easy but rewarding. There is no telling if you get altitude sickness regardless of your fitness or trekking experience in altitude. Items on the mountain are quite expensive, especially the higher you go. This is not a cheap holiday but a very rewarding and life changing one. A positive attitude and open mind definitely helps.
Amazing trip. Dont miss the Gokyo Lakes and the climb. One of the best views i have ever seen.
tip; do pre trek shopping in kathmandhu. no need to buy stuff at home..its cheaper here.
I would highly recommend this trip to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes. Just book it! The scenery is utterly spectacular and Intrepid made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. After our welcome meeting our local guide helped those that needed to hire or buy equipment such as sleeping bags in Kathmandu, to make sure the equipment was of good quality and a fair price. They went the extra mile to teach us about local culture and language. Perhaps bring water purification equipment from home to make sure it is safe (3-4 litres per day) and cash if you can as the ATMs in Kathmandu are temperamental but again our guide helped us with this. Money exchange is readily available.
If you’re thinking about doing this trip with Intrepid go for it! You won’t regret it. The people you meet, places you go and connections you make will be amazing and the sense of achievement is immense! The staff are all amazing, especially our guide Chandra.
What I enjoyed most about the trip was the slower pace of travel, walking allowed more time to explore and take in the wonderful landscape, wildlife, villages and local people. This will definitely be the style of holiday I will be choosing from now on. The trip was really well planned and the gradual ascent meant the effects of higher altitude were minimal. Assistant guide Suman in particular was friendly and encouraging throughout the trip and will make a great leader. Min’s humour and interaction with the group was also great. I would also like to thank the hard work of the porters Dinesh, Bisu Jimi, Balaram and Subash, I really looked forward to their warm welcome as we arrived at each teahouse at the end of the day.
Intrepid is a great way to travel when youre on your own- great guides, great company and 0 hassle at an affordable price.
I cannot recommend Intrepid travel highly enough, the trip was excellently organised, the guides were superb and couldnt do enough for you and the banter was great. The leader was superb and kept us informed, safe and liked his cards!!! Highly recommend!
Prepare yourself for the experience of a lifetime. Its tough but oh so worth the view at Annapurna Base Camp! There are A LOT of steps, so if your knees/ankles are weak, I suggest walking poles, youll be glad you hired them. Remember that this is a Trek in a fairly poor country, so the lodges are very basic but clean! Sometimes the internet & hot water dont work but thats part of the journey!
The trip was fantastic. It was hard but the accomplishment and scenery made it all worth while. The guides was attentive, professional and knowledgeable while fun and engaging and helped make it a trip of a lifetime. I would definitely recommend the trip (be aware of the distances and rougher nature of accommodation due to destination) and would recommend Intrepid for all small group trips.
This trip was truly an amazing, unique and rewarding experience. I cant recommend it enough.
The scenery is incredible but be prepared for a tough hike and tougher accommodation. Fantastic culturally experience and physical challenge. A once in a life time trip…
Very special trek along an amazing route. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a holiday to remember!
Annapurna Explorer is a wonderful trip. I returned refreshed in mind, body and soul. Indeed, I shed five kilogrammes in a fortnight.
Nepal warms your heart, the people the culture the varied sceneries and environments. Chitwan hot and jungle with crocodiles gazing as you slide by in a tree canoe. Rafting and taking in the huge scenic mountains surrounding the Trisuli River. Experience the magical spirit of the monkey temple, the mesmerising chants of the Buddhist monastery in the mountain
Intrepid never fails to exceed my expectations. The Tamang Heritage and Lantang Trek was a mixture of cultural, physical, nature trip altogether. There was substantial opportunity to interact with the locals and enjoy the scenery. Nonetheless, the participants have to be physically-fit as the hikes were quite demanding (multiple uphill/downhill treks with at least 500 masl elevation gain/loss, sometimes under the sun). However, we were always greeted with stunning vistas (snow-capped mountains, clean rivers, hill-side villages, terraces, occasional donkey and yak crossings). Our assistant guide, Suman, was very helpful and knowledgeable; the other assistant guide, Min, was also helpful. Our porters, Boleram, Dinesh, Basu were very helpful. However, Jimmy and Subas stood out as excellent candidates to be assistant guides; we could see their interest in interacting with us. Our leader, Ram Nepal, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful; he addressed all ours concerns and queries. we will miss hearing his, “How are you?” question, which he asks us multiple times in a day. Overall, the trip was a wonderful way to explore Tamang villages and the Lantang Valley. If you can hike 7-8 hours uphill and downhill, stay in very basic guesthouses (squat toilets), eat the same food again and again (Dahl Bat and Momos) and appreciate the beauty of Tamang’s and Lantang’s beautiful scenery and people, then this trip is for you.
Great trip allowing you to discover Nepal without heavy trekking activities, mainly focusing on cultural and rural Nepal! Our guide, Nabin, was great!
This is a great first trip to Nepal. Its got a great mix of city and rural areas. The knowledge of our guide helped bring Kathmandu to life. The tranquility of hiking through rural padi fields and the excitement of rafting down a river valley, or taking the Everest flight are experiences I will never forget. This trip has helped me fall in love with this country and I know Ill be back. Take a warm jacket – the hills can be cool!
The Everest Base Camp Trek was amazing. It’s a trip of a lifetime and although challenging, you will see some of the most amazing scenery in the world. The local intrepid guides were fantastic and provided a great deal of support and encouragement. They got us all to the destination and provided a lot of laughs and fun along the way. What an amazing trip! Would highly recommend to everyone.
Please ensure you have trained for this trek. It is a long hard walk and if your fitness isnt where is needs to be you will struggle.
Excellent trip! Mountain biking was by far the most challenging activity so consider a padded bike seat or shorts since road conditions make it a bumpy ride. Hiking was challenging at times but completely doable and rafting was just fun! Our trip leader was excellent and emphasized our safety first and foremost, which is as expected with any Intrepid trip. He was particularly adept at handling even the most challenging in our group…honey lemon ginger tea anyone? All I can advise is that you be prepared to go with the flow…there’s definitely some culture shock at first but at the end of the trip you’ll have a new-found appreciation for Nepal and its wonderful people. Definitely an eye-opening experience!
A great trip to have a go at varied activities and experience Nepal in a less strenuous way than the trip notes suggested. You can bike through busy streets and into the hills, see the Annapurna Mountain range from a less snowy area and relax! on rafting.
Intrepid are a great company to travel with. Great local knowledge
Awesome experience which was well organised by KB. Padam-so much fun and knowledgeable and Ostar was an excellent support in pacing. Magnificent views. Authentic cultural opportunities. Preparation wise. It was well worth taking diox as an AMs preventer and pre plastering on rubbing points on shoes with compeed plasters. Training wise – stair training was well worth it. Equipment- poles excellent support, bring a good rain jacket and pack cover as it does rain daily. Quick dry important as only one place had a drying fire. Hydration satchets and tummy stuff a good investment. The food was great its just different to what your body may be used to??. Ive pen with water filter works great. Just be aware at higher altitudes the batteries may not work as well. Highly recommend this trip and guides. Was a lifetime wish of mine and it fulfilled all expectations and more??
If traveling to Nepal again, I would definitely request having Nabin Khayargoli as my group leader. He is extremely sharp, knowledgeable, accurate, and personable!
Stunning scenery but do make sure you are truly ready for 10 solid days of steep mountain trekking!
The first few days of this trip were incredible. The Tamang Heritage trail is beautiful and worth any effort you put in but make sure you do train hard before you turn up. Unfortunately we had to stop hiking four days into the trek due to illness so I cannot speak for the Langtang portion. What I can attest to is that iIf the worst happens and you do get sick or injured whilst on tour rest assured that the Intrepid team will do an amazing job helping you. Our tour guide Ram was amazing and did everything in his power to keep us going until we had to stop and then did just as good a job ensuring that we got all the help we needed. Post hospital Santos on the Intrepid desk in Kathmandu could not have been more helpful arranging alternate plans for us. If you do have the pleasure to deal with these guys in Nepal then you will have an amazing trip. I cannot say enough kind things about them.
For the EBC trek: bring more snacks and Clif bars than you think are necessary (at least one Clif bar per day). The food does get old rather fast, and those snacks are very welcomed when your appetite does exist. Don’t bring protein bars as your stomach will be uneasy and heavy protein does not sit well.
Fantastic trip. Super well organised. Excellent knowlegable guide. Amazing experience
Intrepid has delivered a fantastic trip to us while trekking in the Himalayas. The journey was breathtaking and unforgettable and it made it excellent by the great organisation and fantastic local guides.
The Everest Base Camp trip has been carefully planned with our safety and success. The Tour Leader and the assistant guides made sure that everyone was safe and enjoying the trip. They went above and beyond to make the trip a success and fun for everyone in the group.
A very strenuous and challenging trek rewarded with the most beautiful Gokyo lakes and the wild extreme landscape surrounding Everest Base Camp pitched on the glacier edging onto the icefields…. Simply stunning!
This trip is fantastic. If you’re debating it, just go. It’s majestic, awe inspiring and totally worth every step.
Great experience out of the comfort zone!
This is one hell of a trek, surrounded by such beautiful and ancient structures. It’s no walk in the park but once it’s all done and dusted, you’re left with this amazing feeling of accomplishment and achieving something that not many others can truly appreciate. Make sure to train abit!
What an amazing experience! The Guide, Assistant’s and Porters were outstanding and we definitely felt that we had the experienced the trip as the locals would. Awesome destination.
This trip is great to get to know Nepal a little bit, it basically stays in Kathmandu Valley but that means that the travel times are fortunately pretty short. You get to see amazing scenerys, small hikes anyone can do and some great Nepali towns.
Take small concentrates of cordial to help with the taste of the chlorinated water. It really makes a difference. Take a medical kit for vomiting and diarrhoea and headaches/ailments. Only require one walking pole (not two) just to steady yourself. Take favourite snacks and buy what you can in Kathmandu. £££
Intrepid made our experience trekking in the Himalayas fun, easy and stress-free
Incredible trip! So much harder than I expected (altitude is rough!) but I’ve blocked all of that now and only have great memories 🙂 The guides – Raj, Pemba, Indrah and Sujan were AMAZING – they took care of us like we were family. Everything was really well organised (except the flights to/from Lukla, but that’s part of the fun) and we had a fantastic group. Planning the next climb with the crew as I type! Thanks Intrepid!
