A short but action packed tour, absolutely worth it and a must to see all the major Iceland attractions in a short time.
Iceland is expensive, ($20 Australian) for a bowl of soup, bring snacks and a thermos from home so you can make coffee/tea at breakfast to take in the van with you. Most of the accommodation is on farms which have self catering facilities so buy supermarket groceries and cook group meals. Make sure camera has rainproof cover as weather changes all the time plus good raincoat and non slip shoes for yourself as may have to walk across ice and snow.
The trip is fun and a good value. We saw everything there was in the six days. The accommodations were fine and the transportation was no problem. The guide’s time management skills could have been better. The folks we traveled with were for the most part enjoyable. Dont count on seeing the Northern Lights as this is rare. Overall well worth it
The cost of living in Iceland is expensive. Intrepid provided excellent value for money.
A well planned itinerary with two or three different experiences each day – a great variety of scenery and geographical features. Wearing layers, plus good, waterproof trousers, shoes, and gloves, very important; as well as a really warm, waterproof coat. You don’t need as many changes of clothes as you think!
A very nice short tour with excellent guides and great stopover locations. A great introduction to Iceland, it’s geography and history. Not to strenuous but good footwear a must.
I have used this company for many years not always called intrepid travel .The first time I used them I climbed to the summit of killie on my twins 18th birthday.I have never ever had a bad experience with them.
I loved this adventure there was different scenery on every turn..Kolla our guide was amazing she was very informative and shared many amazing stories about her life growing up in Iceland as well as the history and culture of her people. This added a personal touch to the tour. We felt very at home in Iceland and I owe this to the personal touch that our guide provided.. If i can advise anything it would be to pack for all seasons..Iceland provides 4 seasons in one day ..we traveled in Icelands summer and we encountered snow on one occasion. The cost of food in Iceland is very expensive so be prepared. We were informed of this but were still shocked. Kolla provided us with many opportunities to by food at grocery stores however. It was our choice to eat at the guesthouse occommodations as they provided a true Icelandic experience and therefore we felt it was well worth it
My visit to Iceland was a phenomenal experience. On my 4 day trip, we saw waterfalls, rainbows, glacial lagoons, lava fields, puffins…. Iceland will spoil you with it’s abundance of nature. One evening we were even fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights. Our guide was helpful and authoritative, being an Icelandic native. The group was small and friendly and the accommodation surpassed my expectations. I didn’t need thermal/waterproof gear I took with me, as it was sunny every day! Definitely planning a return visit.
This is great trip to see some absolutely stunning places! Iceland is an incredibly beautiful and interesting place; our guide Larus was excellent (one of the best guides I’ve had on tours). He was full of so much information on Iceland’s people, culture, geology and folktales which made for a great trip! Iceland is an expensive place, but well worth it! All the food we had was great, but some accommodation comes with cooking facilities if you’re keen to save a bit and be sure to get some snacks for the long drives! I would recommend having a day or two, either before or after to enjoy more of Iceland!
This is a brilliant tour. You really feel like you get to see all of Iceland. There’s a lot of driving in the second half of the trip but it never felt boring. It’s probably worth spending an extra day in Reykjavik if you want to visit any of the museums because you don’t get a lot of time there.
I love the small intimate group that Intrepid offer.
Iceland is beautiful. Unfortunately Iceland is also very touristy and expensive. This trip is conventional; it takes you to the places were everybody else goes. Therefore it is a good introduction to the country. However, this is not Intrepid at its best.
This was the best trip I’ve ever taken in my life! Itinerary is action-packed but not rushed, friendly knowledgeable guide and epic scenery. If you’re considering visiting Iceland then I couldn’t recommend this trip more highly!
Great itinerary! Could be really cold so go prepared! and eating is super expensive, so try to cook at the accommodation when possible, it’s like three times better. If you like drinking buy everything on duty free. Whales watching is a waste be of money and time. The rest is just stunning!
Fantastic tour, Pall was an amazing tour guide. Felt that we got to see a lot of Iceland in a very short timeframe.
I would recommend the Iceland Discovery trip to anyone, it was an unforgettable experience. My friends thought it was an unusual choice for a holiday, but after showing them the spectacular scenery and raving about the tour, Ive convinced a couple of them to go!
The 10 day Iceland Tour was awesome. People everywhere were very friendly. Having a guideline of what to pack helped, but after the fact, I overpacked. More time spent traveling than actually outdoors, so layers are needed. Nothing really fancy needed.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Iceland Discovery trip. The locations and sights are truly exceptional and breathtaking. Having a small group size makes the trip even more rewarding. Most of accommodations were in farmhouses and nature settings. Trip was very well organized and were able to see lot of places in relatively short time. We would highly recommend this trip.
After my Intrepid Rome to Paris tour I was worried about this trip. It was the total opposite. I would recommend this one but not the other. This was amazing. Iceland is a different picture every 5 minutes.
Unfortunately we did not see any Northern lights but it was definitely worth knowing Iceland from its wintry side.
Iceland is amazing! Make sure to charge your camera and bring extra memory cards, I took almost 1,000 pictures in 4 days!
This was our first trip with Intrepid and we would definitely book with them again. Iceland was fabulous. Be prepared for all types of weather, dress in layers and wear your rain gear when viewing the many beautiful waterfalls.
Excellent trip worth doing to include more varied experience than the “short hop” of the Golden Triangle
Fantastic natural wonders to see and beautiful landscape. However, make sure you budget extra money for food! The prices are very, very high.
I worried that this trip would involve too much sitting for my tolerance. This was not the case. Get up and walk at every opportunity! There was much to see, experience and learn in this stark, strangely alien country of ice and fire.
take lots of money and pay the single supp
The trip I took was an Iceland Express Tour and was well managed with our driver/guide working hard for us giving excellent information and making sure we saw everything. . Meals are expensive in Iceland so take advantage of the market stops and pick up your own food . Cabins have good kitchens and common areas. Bring GOOD rain gear (Gortex works well) The weather is very changeable in Iceland.
Excellent tour which covers all the essential sights of Iceland and more. The small group made for a more intimate experience than larger tours. The guesthouses/farm stays were of a higher quality than expected. All weather gear including waterproof pants and hiking boots are a must as the weather can change in an instant!
Intrepid trips tick all the boxes
Do not hesitate to book this trip. A fabulous itinery. Glacier hiking and the ice caves was a highlight and after hunting for the Northern lights for a few nights outside gorgeous cabins and farm stays, we saw them on the final night. Our guide was incredible- passionate and really funny.
You pack a lot of Iceland into a very short time with this trip! The Glacier Lagoon was my favorite site. Bring warm clothes and good sturdy boots/shoes for the Glacier Walk. Make sure to book your activities for Day 5 before you come. Download the Aurora app so you can see the forecast and it alerts you when you have a chance to see the Northern Lights.
The travel notes provided are very useful, it helps me determining whether the destination is where I want to go, and the activities are ones I enjoy. Also Intrepid website gives me an idea how many group members I will travel with, this helps you decide whether you like to go on a less crowded tour or not.
Iceland is an amazing place to visit – the scenery is outstanding. Coming from New Zealand I was still in awe of the country. It is expensive but in my opinion definitely worth making the investment
For me Iceland was once in a lifetime experience and so the Intrepid Iceland Discovery was perfect. I saw almost all of Iceland. It is the sort of country where every day you see something even more spectacular than the day before. Dress in layers and be prepared for all sorts of weather. But rain or snow won’t slow you down. Wear good walking shoes. If you drink, take duty free. Take advantage of the Bonus grocery stores (everywhere) to stock up on snacks, sandwiches etc.
Do take all the clothing Intrepid recommend and money!
Iceland with Intrepid was a fine experience.
The Iceland Discovery was a panoramic overview of Iceland…a journey to the centre of the earth!
Be prepared for any weather. Be positive and optimistic. Meals very expensive along with souvenirs.
After exploring the possibility of driving around Iceland by ourself, I found the Intrepid tour was a much cheaper option. It also allowed me to have a greater experience with the culture and people through a local leader that we would not have achieved by ourself within the same time period! One of the highlights for me was visiting the 1973 US Navy DC crash site on a farm in Vik (Southern coast of Iceland). This was an addition to the itinerary – a life experience I will remember for ever!
This is a great way to see Iceland. The trip includes many wonderful sights and experiences, the accommodation was always warm and comfortable, and the whole package represents great value for money.
Iceland is absolutely amazing. This trip is perfect to get a good understanding of what this beautiful country is about. Glaciers, volcanoes, lava fields, geothermal sites, wildlife… raw nature at its best. Accommodations are incredible, giving you a true taste of local life. Don’t be put off by all the driving, the scenery is breathtaking and the distances are really well broken up with sites/stops along the way, so you barely get a chance to get comfortable in that car seat! Weather is quite unpredictable so layers are recommended, as well as waterproof rain jacket and overpants (those waterfalls can really get you wet!). Highly recommended trip!
