Was Du in Griechenland unbedingt probieren musst:

Was Du Dir in Greichenland nicht entgehen lassen solltest:

1. Komboloi (Sorgenperlen)

I have recently returned from the Best of Greece trip with Intrepid. This is my second trip with the Company (Morocco) and I have thoroughly enjoyed both. They are well organised and the itinerary allows for a good balance of group activities and free time. I enjoy the use of local transport and found the accommodation comfortable and ideally located for exploring. The guides suggestions for eating and local activities were spot on (thank you Aris!). Greece is a beautiful country with wonderful, welcoming people, food and scenery – finishing in Santorini was a highlight!

A great trip as you get an opportunity to visit archeological sites, picturesque villages and spend a lot of time on beaches. I didn’t do the trekking and I preferred going for a unmissable cruise to the Volcano. The hotels were comfortable although all 15 minutes away from the main areas and not on beaches . Our trip leader Sylvia was knowledgeable, really approachable, friendly and organised.

This was fantastic! My first big trip overseas from NZ (just turned 35!), and was going solo. This was a nice and easy organised trip, didn’t have to think about anything other than what to eat and drink. Small group was nice (we had 9 inc guide Ivan who was brilliant BTW). Mixture of ages, half were at a guess 50+ but was great fun, dont let that put you off. Greek islands are beautiful, suggest stayin on in Santorini for 1-2 extra nights on your own after the tour as you dont get to see enough and its just an amazing place. Shared accomodation was ok but beds were very close togther which I wasnt to fond of! Arranged at my own extra cost to have own accomodation in Santorini.

I am pleased that my family and I chose Intrepid Travel for our Greek sailing trip. It was an experience of a lifetime. We visited islands with no to little tourists. This trip is ideal if you want to avoid a lot of the throngs of people on the islands. It is great being able to step off your boat onto the quay. Although the tourist hotspots of Mykonos and Ios are on the itinerary so are the calmer places. We visited Iraklia, Amorgos and Naxos and saw more of the local way of life. Swam in some isolated bays too.

Beautifully organised Islands trip with amazing and well learned Tour leader. It is fun to just relax and absorb those amazing scenic landscapes of Mykonos and Syros, mesmerising blue Mediterranean sea, Caldera and narrow blue and white streets of Santorini, while Intrepid beautifully take care of everything else for your memorable travel.

This was my first time with intrepid and I went with a family of 4. We really enjoyed the small group setting and our leader Olga was amazing. She really cared about our group and basically stuck with us all day every day! Some of our hotels were very nice with great views, but not all were nice. However, you can still expect a clean space. The santorini hike took about 4hrs and all mainly uphill. Overall, great trip!

In all weather conditions this kilt wearing 89 year old felt completely secure and safe on our memorable yachting trip. Skipper, Antonio, master mariner, friendly, locally clued up; the crew 21-89. Dazzling white dwellings like snow on the hills, an exotic range of sea blues, the food, Wow!

Georgios was the best skipper we could have hoped for. He ensured we felt safe at all times and ensured there was no high risk activity. He also knew everything about each island we visited, GDP, climates, exports, population. He booked us really lovely restaurants each night on each different island and went above and beyond his duties as Skipper. The islands were unique and the trip was really well organised. Thanks George!

I had an amazing time on this tour. We were able to stop and swim at/explore places you would never see on a cruise. Our skipper, Giorgos, was very knowledgeable about each island. A beautiful way to see the Greek Cyclades with some really interesting people. Remember to always be flexible, everyone is different and don’t worry too much about a schedule, that’s how you will get the most from the experience. Athens to Santorini was the perfect trip to see and explore the Greek islands. Each island is its own paradise and Ivan was a great tour leader full of information about the Greek culture and history. Plenty of time in each city to get a feel for the culture and get lost in the streets, taste local Greek cuisine and swim in the Aegean Sea. This was the best holiday I have ever had and can’t wait to book my next intrepid tour! I do recommend arriving a day or so earlier in Athens. Thank you Ivan and thanks intrepid!

Athens to Santorini is an excellent way to experience the diversity of Greece with three contrasting islands. The side trip to Delos is excellent and the history that you are exposed to is brilliant. Get to Athens early, we had a wedding and arrived in later than we should have. Drink a lot of water before as it’s hot, travel light as you can or bring a bag/suitcase with wheels as you will be moving to 3 islands and so the more mobile the better. Bring a good camera and take it all in. Make time for a normal (non touristy cafe) as the Greeks are so friendly and charming. Being more mature (40), on my own and new to group travel I was a bit nervous about my first trip with Intrepid but I had nothing to be worried about. Greece: amazing scenery, food and history. Always take the tour guide option. Get fit for hills and stairs. Have access to extra money.

The mainland greece tour overall was amazing. Though it is wise to be ready for the long rides from each destination, the accompanying heat, the long walks, having extra euros for dinners and extra tours, and the possibility of pick pocketing.

For us, Intrepid offers a perfect way to travel. We enjoy the small groups and having a tour leader available. Also visiting places that are “off the beaten track”.

Intrepid runs amazing trips focusing on local experiences shared with a relatively small group of travelers who share the same interests. The leaders are professional and understand the importance responsible travel while focusing on the country’s cultural highlights.

Just completed Mainland Greece and Greek island trip and can’t recommend it highly enough! Greece is a stunning country with beautiful people and food. We felt welcomed wherever we went. Aris, our guide made our trip an absolute pleasure and his recommendations of where to eat and what extra activities to do were always spot on.

Athens to Santorini is an easy trip that is very relaxing with ferries as transport, visiting 3 of the main Greek islands, all very different and interesting a relaxing enjoyable trip.

I would highly recommend Intrepid travel tours to people who would like to meet locals, get off the beaten track, not be tied to a big group and have all the hassles of booking and using local transport removed. We have done several Intrepid tours and thoroughly enjoyed every single one. Their strong point is their high quality tour leaders and their well researched itineraries. Thankyou Intrepid we recommend you to all our friends and family wanting to travel overseas headache free.

Do not rely on ATMs in Greece. Please just bring Cash and maybe a bank/credit/debit card for emergencies. Realistically, you will only need to pay in cash for all purchases.

This trip was amazing. The boat was beautiful and well maintained, the islands and itinerary were perfect, and our skipper Antonis was professional, funny, kind and a truly impressive sailor. Plus, the group bonded instantly (and stayed that way)! I have not laughed so much in years.

I was introduced to Intrepid travel by a friend who highly recommended them. My partner and I much prefer small group travel that exposes us to local life and experiences as much as possible. Intrepid travel offers this and our first ever experience of a sailing adventure with Intrepid will surely have us coming back to plan our next adventure with them!

This is a great way to cover a lot of ground and see the Greek Islands/Small Cyclades. It’s nice that the travel time between islands is not super long, so you can spend a lot of time exploring on land. The boat is well maintained, and overall a fun experience; however, if you are claustrophobic or just wary of small spaces, be warned that the boat may not be for you. The sleeping/gallery spaces are very, very small, and even the deck space can feel quite cramped with the full 11 people. Overall, however, this is a really great itinerary and allows you to see a lot in a short amount of time.

Loved the tour, Meteora and Delphi are beautiful. The excursions were very informative and full of history. It was a good mix of activities and some down time in the afternoons. The food and restaurants recommended by the Leaders were delicious. Truly a great start to exploring Greece!

The Athens to Santorini trip was an excellent introduction to the Greek Islands. The included activities were excellent and allowed us to get an authentic taste of Greek culture but there was also plenty of free time to go off an explore independently. We couldn’t have asked for a better group leader than Sylvia; she went above and beyond to cater to everybody’s needs and interests! What a great trip!

This trip has everything from ancient ruins in tiny towns to some of Greece’s biggest cities filled with gloriously friendly people. Our guide, Dina, shared with us some top local tips and the entire tour (my first!) was one of the BEST holidays I’ve ever been on. I’d recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about the history of Greece, and really getting off the “beaten path” for a country you probably don’t know as well as you think!

I would recommend the Cyclades adventure to everyone. Antonios our skipper was 2nd to none. The sights and experiences you will see along the way will take your breath away. You will make life long friends as well. Our group was made up of ages 30-69 and we bonded like family, helped by our amazing skipper. Definitely put this trip on your bucket list!

Thanks, Intrepid! I felt safe, comfortable and well taken care of throughout our trip. It makes a huge difference to have a knowledgable leader handling logistics, and Olga was super! The best preparation I made was to cut back on luggage: one small suitcase and a day pack was easy to manage.

Intrepid is a great travel site to use. You can tell that each group leader cares about the group and the places they travel to. They do their research on each city and place you visit so you can get the full experience of the places you visit. This travel site makes sure they can answer any questions or concerns you have before going on your trip and will provide any accommodations you need. Each group leaders makes the best effort for people to get involved with the people on your trip and to experience the culture of each country you are visiting.

Sailing in the Cyclades was a dream for me as most islands have museums full of fantastic Cycladic prehistoric archaeological finds. If you are into folded arm figures and octopus pots, check out the museum hours and mark them in your diary – they often close at 3pm and are closed Mondays but there are exceptions.

Please be more specific about all that is entailed physically on a trip. We had two people with disabilities that made it more challenging for the leader and group. Encouraging people to connect before the trip would be great- especially for those who room with a person they don’t know. Maybe suggest folks download What’s Ap. It would make everything go more smoothly in the beginning.

Just come ashore from the Mykonos-Santorini trip and it was incredible, we had a very hunky skipper – Alex and the trip was a dream, fabulous destinations, rural, non commercial, scenic and seamlessly organised. Far exceeded any expectations and would be a destination I hope to repeat in the future. Be sure to request Alex as your skipper.

Intrepid is a great way to experience a new place! It helps you to see all the must-see sights and helps guide you through language and cultural barriers so you feel that you are learning and experiencing a new place in a responsible, culturally-sensitive way. Great trip all round. There are compromises to be made with yacht accomodation but the upside is going places the bigger boats can’t. Boat could use some different coloured towels as it’s hard to know which one is yours when they are all the same. Some different coloured cups would also be useful.
