Get the right group of friends together and travel the Sardinian coast with Intreped. You will see things which will stay in your memory for a lifetime and if you are lucky you will make life-long friends
If youre thinking of sailing, just do it. This trip is perfect for water lovers, food lovers, culture lovers. Its a great trip to relax and de-stress and unique way to see an incredible part of the world. I had an amazing trip I wont forget for a long time!
Very much enjoyed the trip. Skipper did all in his power to make the trip run smoothly. Everyone was great.
This trip was great. We went to amazing beaches and lovely seaside towns. The swim spots were crystal clear water. The food through the tour was so good. Lots of things to do, and plenty of time to relax in the sun. Highly recommend this trip.
Wonderful trip for the adventurous spirit! Must be open to tight living quarters. I’d definitely recommend renting the Electric bikes on La Maddalena and biking around the island. Jumping off the boat and swimming everyday, exploring Corsica, and biking around La Maddalena were some of the highlights. Relaxing on the boat surrounded by the beautiful blue water and getting to know your fellow travelers is a great way to spend your vacation.
great rustic tour. be prepared to share cozy quarters, and you will have a blast. amazing scenery, food, friends and laughs. a must do.

Awesome Intrepid tour to overview Southern Europe. A bit of everything for all ages, city and country, Pre book the big attractions to avoid dissapointment and the ever-present lines and coordinate it with your tour itinerary. Good worn in shoes, merino wool socks are a must and foot soak too. Pack light as suggested (backpack with rugged wheels for lots of cobblestones, uneven pavement and steps) Get off the beaten track , up a side alley, share a beer or expresso with the locals. You won’t regret it.
A good experience travelling the Intrepid way. Seniors should be prepared to rough it a bit eg. carrying your own luggage up and down Metro stairs. no taxis from transport to hotels. All round nice to travel with a small group
This trip was an excellent taster of some wonderful places in Spain, France and Italy. It was quite fast paced, but has definitely whet my appetite to return to immerse myself in the local culture and cuisine. Having a knowledgeable and reliable leader guiding us through made it possible to see so much in such a short time.
This trip includes primarily transport to ports. What you do during the day is up to you, including finding good beaches and trekking there by foot or taxi. Bonafacio and La Maddalena are wonderful locations. This particular trip barely scratches the surface of La Maddalena archipelago. There are affordable day-long boat trips you can take around the island. I would suggest spending your day on one of those if you find yourself docked in port all day. On another note, being on a yacht is a very unique experience. Its glamorous and cool though cramped at times. You really become friends with your fellow travelers. Buon viaggi!
Fo over 60’s: keep in mined that a good level of fitness is required- many steps in Metros and mountains. Catering for vegetarians on this trip not good- difficult to find decent food. French and Italians have forgotten how to cook vegetables!! Choices at restaurants were poor and expensive.
Be aware that you need to be physically fit and relatively independent for this trip. Sturdy wheeled back pack type luggage is a must. Flexibility and a sense of humour also.
This tour was varied in ages from mid 20s to upper 50s. There is definitely walking on this trip, and a LOT of stairs. One thing that I read, and I will reiterate is keep your bag light. I had a 35 liter backpack and a shoulder bag. Everyone else had rolling bags and day backpacks and they had to lug them up and down stairs, and often there are no elevators in stations and some of the trains can’t handle to larger bags in the storage racks. And some hotel elevators, if they are working, stop on every other floor. The tour was lots of fun with only eight people who all got along well.
Definitely read the trip notes as they are very comprehensive.
A sailing trip isn’t everyone’s first choice of a relaxing holiday but this trip taking in Sardinia and Corsica ticked all the boxes. Short, stress free sailing days with new friends to reach a new destination followed by optional onshore adventures. Loved every minute.
If you come with a good attitude and a sense of adventure, you will have the time of your life s d make done new friends along the way.
This is a sailing adventure, so be ready to go with the flow (literally!). If you are unsure that you get seasick, take some non drowsy Bonnine to be on the safe side (trust me). The views are unmatched and experience in general is something I will never forget. Highly recommend this trip!!!
As a first time solo female traveler, I had serious reservations about visiting a foreign country on my own. By booking Intrepid, I felt comfortable and safe the entire time. The trip was thoroughly planned out and incorporated smaller, less-known cities to give you a true taste of the local culture making the experience that much more unique.
My only negative was that I would have preferred longer stays in each place as there was so much to see and do. Both my husband and I (late 50’s) became very tired as the trip neared the end. I personally would like to take a more relaxed trip focusing more on people and culture than tourist sites, next time I travel. Some of us just want a relaxing holiday away from work, and don’t care too much about popular sites. For us it’s all about the experience and not so much what we see.

Another great Intrepid trip! Keep up the good work!
People in Europe walk up stairs a lot. This means you can eat Pizza in Italy, Fondu in Switzerland and croissants in France. Calories dont matter so much because you walk everywhere all day. People from USA will be glad to know their favourite homegrown flavours are well represented at the usual hip poket friendly rates… (Burger King, Mc Donalds)
The trip was great and we enjoyed every moment. Filling out the survey took too much time from our travel itinerary.
I loved my Barcelona – Rome tour. The itinerary was perfect! Spring was probably the best time to do it as it was not too crowded and weather was good. We mainly travelled by train and it was quite comfortable. Travel light! It will definitely make everything easier. Hotels were okay and they were all close to train stations, which was really convenient. We were a small group so that helped in many aspects but I must say I really liked those days without programmed activities where I could just freely explore all those beautiful cities on my own.
Travelling with Intrepid was an amazing experience especially as it was a small group.Travelling with a backpack rather than a suitcase as it is a lot easier getting on and off trains. Most importantly make sure you bring enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!
Be prepared to embrace the culture, people. Learn some language. When it says travel lightly do so. You are responsible for yourselves, respect others and all in all have some fun.
I would just like to encourage any solo travelers in their 20s to 50s to seriously consider taking this trip. I am a 48-year-old female (mother of two back home), and I had the best trip I have possibly ever taken…and this is coming from a frequent global traveler! The islands and waters are stunning, the culture and food fantastic, and my skipper and shipmates were A+. It felt great to cook together, clean together, work the sails together, live an organized, respectful and communal life in small quarters for a week, doing something completely out of the ordinary, and get to know people from all over the world. I’m just lucky I was able to keep my ugly American accent after 8 days with 3 Aussies, a Kiwi, and a South African. 😉
Intrepid trips take you on more than a holiday, they give you the chance to experience real life in other countries but also the confidence to go out and have your own adventures and make the trip your own.
Intrepid trips take all the hassle out organising and doing the logistics and give you the freedom to focus on having a holiday and experiencing places alongside the locals.
Over 50, totally unprepared for my first intrepid tour, but otherwise well travelled. I was initially shocked by the style of accommodation and the fact that I had over packed and had to carry everything myself on and off trains; up and down stairs on train stations and in hotels without lifts. All of this said, we visited to the most extraordinarily beautiful places; I did things I would never have done on my own (go to the top of Jungfrau mountain!) and met a wonderful group of people. Our tour leader helped us all get the best from our trip. I probably wouldn’t do a basic (original) level tour again, but I am so glad to have done this one.
Feel free to use our previous comments.
Love Intrepid travel
Intrepid is a great way to travel for solo travellers. I got to see places I wouldn’t normally go myself. The group was varied and fantastic company, and the itinerary gave me room to do my own thing while having the others to share with at the end of the day.
Great adventure with the assistance from Intrepid’s local knowledge and experience
Very fun trip. You see lots of interesting places and the water is spectacular. You get to know everyone on board and it’s like little family. Definitely recommend to anyone.
Sailing in Sardinia is as heavenly as it sounds! This trip has a good mix of nights in port and on anchor and every swimming spot was as beautiful as the last one. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience, varied age brackets, really good to experience a country in a short period of time. Very close quarters and have to be willing to chip in, make an effort with cleaning and cooking and be open to getting to know new people. Giorgos was amazing if you ever get a trip with him.
wOw what an adventure, cruising the beautiful islands of Sardinia. Cabins are very comfortable, it was great to be able to “check in” and not have to pack & unpack whilst travelling. Such a fab experience to explore beautiful beaches and ports. Remember to pack something warm or an all weather jacket it can get cool on the water
A fantastic way to explore the Costa Smeralda.
This sailing trip is sensational for sampling pristine waters, delicious cuisines, and meeting wonderful like minded travellers! Intrepid provide a great insight into local cultures wherever they take you, while using local transport in smaller groups, rather than jamming you into a cattle car (coach). The intrepid way is a far better way!
Nice week of sailing to exquisite beaches, eating good food and just relaxing. Be sure to bring a wind jacket though!
Sardinia and Corsica; superb.
A very relaxing way to enjoy the water around Sardinia.
An absolutely beautiful part of the world, and sailing is a great way to experience it! If you are expecting any luxuries this is not the trip for you, and those with previous sailing experience who feel confident assisting the skipper are likely to get the most out of it. However if you are willing to try something new and go beyond your comfort zone this is a great adventure!
An excellent overview of some major cities in central Europe – our favourite being the smaller inland and coastal towns of Italy. Good exposure to the local lifestyle as well as navigation of the various public transport systems. As the trip notes suggest, I cannot recommend highly enough that people taking this trip take a backpack and not a wheeled suitcase (I used a 50L and had plenty of room to spare). The cobblestone streets, crowded footpaths, busy bus/train stations (including actually getting on/off trains & storing luggage), then throw in loads of staircases – these are places where you do NOT want to be lugging around a 25kg suitcase. Overall and excellent trip operated by an excellent trip leader!
make sure you read the standard eg (basic )ask questions etc,and the level of fitness required.
Great trip, a lot of fun and a lot of time spent in water. The destination is not as important as the journey. I think I am hooked onto sailing trips and cant wait to do another one….
I would highly recommend Intrepid. We did the Original, and it was amazing. However, as we are in our 60s, we found the carrying of luggage from the train to the hotel, quite difficult. I think the Original is for younger people than us. Next time, we would do the Comfort level. It is great, though, to just hand over the arranging to experts, and our leader, Valentina, did a fantastic job. It means you don’t waste time looking for things. They give you suggestions and maps to make everything as easy as possible.
This trip included a great variety of destinations including places you might not normally visit. Be mindful if traveling in peak season it can get very crowded and very hot!
A great trip for all ages where you get to experience the best these countries have to offer. Some tips – travel light and make sure your luggage is easy to carry, consider buying the Jungfrau 3 day pass in Interlaken, consider taking the ferry to the Cinque Terre.
This was the highlight if a 3 month European holiday. It was a great way to escape the heat in high season and get away from the tourists whilst still seeing the archipelago.
Perfect trip to get to know the beautiful cost of northern Sardinia and southern Corsica and explore outlaying bays and islands. And to recharge your body with sun and energy.
Don’t go in July-August! Too hot and crowded. Hire a scooter in Nice to help you cover more distance.
The sailing was very a very chilling and relaxing experience. The Esmeralda coast is absolutely beautiful and packed with paradise looking beaches. While on the boat, you feel really privileged and can enjoy the weather and the sea as much as you want. It is great trip when you want to take your time and enjoy the seaside. Sailing is although really good there ( although can be quite windy)
The waters between Sardinia and Corsica are a yachting paradise. Plenty of opportunity to learn how to sail a 50 foot yacht but you can just sit back and enjoy the sailing if that is your preference. Many spectacular sights and even for a Queenslander the blue waters were a visual treat and the swimming superb. Great company and our leader Stefano a delight.
Be ware of the extra costs for most of the meals, dragging bags from one platform to the next without lifts, often longer walks from the train station to the accommodation..pack light..but it is a hard task when going away for 24 days.
The Rome to Paris trip gives the traveller many great options to explore on their own, or to try other options such as guided tours, hikes and group events. You can be as active as you like but I would suggest a ‘good to high’ level of fitness would help to make the trip more enjoyable. I would suggest that travellers travel as light as possible (stick to around 10% of your body weight in your backpack – up to 50 litres only) and be prepared to lift and carry your own luggage. My suggestions are to be open minded and interested, as well as being prepared to try everything that is suggested. If you do, you will have a great time and learn lots. I know I did!
The trip was excellent and an introduction to part of Europe. Tip for other travellers – Take a realistic assessment of your physical abilities and take not of luggage limitations. In particular on trips utilizing public transport and local accommodation involves many, many, many steps and an a continual reliance on assistance for others, particularly when those others have worked to abide by the limitations, can lead to unwecome friction.
A wonderful way to have an authentic experience everywhere you travel. Eliminates most of the stress involved with travel, while still enabling you independence and the ability to tailor your trip to you. A big tip – if your trip notes include recommendations about how much luggage to bring, FOLLOW THEM! Members of our group didn’t follow these recommendations, and brought over twice the recommended amount, and it was a huge inconvenience for everyone for the whole trip.
