If you are thinking of doing the Trans Mongolian Rail Journey, stop thinking, and do it!!! It was the trip of a lifetime. Hopefully you will be lucky enough to get Ksenia as your group leader.
The trans Mongolian trip is a fantastic way to see countries you dreamed about when you were a child. Never did I think that I would ever see a place like Moscow or Mongolia but there I was. This trip allowed me to see all this & more, so I would recommend this trip to anyone thinking about touring this part of the world. I felt completely safe on all occasions & the people of these countries were polite & helpful when needed. They also appeared be just as excited to see you, visiting them. The train was also a welcome rest break in the middle of the trip, which allowed a bit of extra sleep time or catching up on a book & also looking out the window at the magnificent landscape passing by. There are always some small niggles doing these sorts of trips, but they a minor compared to the memories you will have at the end of it. Money well spent
The Trans-Mongolian is a different adventure and great way to see Russia, Mongolia and Northern China in a relatively comfortable and short amount of time.
This is an excellent well tailored trip. The train trips are long but very comfortable – a good time to catch up on reading or gazing out the windows. Wifi is a bit spotty, so if you have a need to be in constant contact, this could be an issue. Pack as lightly as possible as you are moving your bag around. Bring a backpack as it will make it easy on the trains. I highly recommend this trip.
Plan extra time before and after, bring lots of snacks for the train, enjoy the ride, it’s a great trip with a nice mix of activities and location. Highly recommend.
Intrepid travel excels with genuinely enthusiastic and caring trip leaders. You are able to meet and stay with locals on the Trans Siberian Rail, there is plenty of free time to explore by yourselves, and there are free extras like learning Russian or watching Russian film classics with your trip leader while travelling through the wilds of Siberia. And I almost forgot the birch beatings in the Russian Banya (sauna.) A wonderful Intrepid trip.
Is someone asked if they should travel the Trans-Siberian / Trans-Mongolian railway My answer would be most definitely Yes. Be prepared to rough it a bit as well enjoying a bit of luxury. Have an open heart for new experiences, be flexible and pack lightly. You will have the experience of a lifetime.
The Trans-Mongolian Experience from Moscow to Beijing via Ulan Bataar is an interesting experience, but probably not for the younger travellers. Because you’re stuck on a train for 1/3 of the trip, the group you’re with will make or break your experience. Make friends with other tourists/travellers doing the same trip for random encounters as you continue your journey!
If you are interested in experiencing the vastness of Siberia and Mongolia and if you enjoy variety, such as visiting museums, hiking in the wilderness, eating with locals or exploring new cities, then this trip ticks a lot of boxes. Be prepared to see and do a wide range of activities and if youre someone who appreciates some independence and free time, I highly recommend this trip. Be prepared for sharing some close quarters on the trains, but dont worry – theres plenty of opportunities to roam around and enjoy some down time in some truly beautiful places. This adventure is worthy of any travelers bucket list.
The train travel allows you to appreciate the vastness of the region. Amazing contrasts of busy cities, small towns, deserts and forests.
Highly recommend it, every dollar is worthy to do it once in their lifes. The countryside is amazing and much better than expected, Autumn also gives an additional colorful Landscape touch. Its also full of history and culture.
The Trans Mongolian trip is a true adventure, linking West and East in a seamless fashion. Travelling 8000km over 3 weeks, our group became a family, sharing a multitude of experiences and interacting with friendly local people. Staying in local hotels, with a family on Lake Baikal and a ger camp in Mongolia , we were contributing to the local economy. Just one tip – remember the toilet roll!!
An epic adventure not to be missed. So many highlights, from bustling historic cities through ever-changing countryside, the warmth and generosity of local people, the food, the culture, the laughs with a brilliant and knowledgeable guide, youll come home with new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
The Trans-Mongolian Experience is a rare opportunity to visit some remote parts of our world. You will enjoy the beauty and history of St Petersburg and Moscow, the relaxation and authenticity of travelling on the Trans-Siberian railway, the special beauty of Lake Baikal and its villages, the unique qualities of Mongolia and its people, and the vibrant world of modern China. You will not regret taking this journey.
Having a great tour leader with all languages needed and local connections and knowledge is gold; epic scenery, good mix of scheduled activities and free time to relax or explore independently, inclusions of interactions with local people and group dynamics a real bonus.
The Trans-Mongolian Experience trip was a trip of a lifetime, bringing three very different countries together with an epic train journey. If you enjoy culture, music, history, and beauty this is a trip for you, but be aware you need to also like sleeper trains!
A public relation cause for our lady conductor in Car 8 would be appreciated. Russia and Mongolia were far different than what we believed in the past. Much more welcoming than ever though (No KGB around every corner) I do think as a company your guides should be looked after better. For example when our ended and a new one was to start from the same accommodation the guide should stay at that accommodation
Previously we have travelled with Gecko. Intrepid trips are a semi- budget way of travelling. If you are an adventure traveller and not demanding of higher standards of accommodation and transport then these trips will suit you. These trip definitely have you seeing the culture, people and activities that the bigger tours cannot get to or don’t cover in their itinerary. I enjoy the experience and cultural knowledge I gain from this style of travel.
An absolutely incredible trip. Cannot recommmend more highly!
The Trans Siberian is an adventure of epic proportions and one not to be missed. The grandness of St Petersburg & Moscow is a fitting start. Mongolia is an absolute bonus on this journey and the final destination of Beijing a complete contrast to the rest of the trip and it makes a fascinating conclusion to the Itinery.
the trans siberian/mongolian railway trip was everything I’d hoped it would be – the trains were on time, basically comfortable and stopped at a range of lovely local stations, the included activities were interesting and broke up the train travel very well. whilst border changes were hot and tedious, the experience wouldn’t have been the same without them! The Mongolian countryside is beautiful – I will be returning for more.
Trans-Siberian tour is very varied. Treat it as an adventure not a holiday.
A truly epic journey; an excellent introduction to all Russia and Mongolia have to offer. Just be prepared for some occasional contemplative staring out the window on the train journeys (which frankly is good for the soul).
Fantastic adventure. Trip of a lifetime. I was a bit concerned about no showers for several days on the train, but this was not an issue. Take plenty of wet wipes for personal hygiene. Also, I took dehydrated meals from Australia, which were very tasty and easy to prepare on the trains.
Have your eyes opened to the real Russian and Mongolian ways of life. An amazing trip full of lovely people and interesting traditions. The food was tasty all the way through and the train was a great way to travel!
Highly recommended for anyone looking a trip with a difference travelling to some of the most beautiful & remote places on the planet. Intrepid will give you a genuine taste of the local culture & experience. It is you who make the most of the trip. Once you get to a location, it is you who decide what you want to do, places to visit. Intrepid tour leader is only there to provide you advise.
The train journey was very enjoyable. The best aspect of the whole trip was the way we where introduced to the Russian and Mongolian way of life. St. Petersburg, Suzdal and the massive Ghengis Khan statue/ museum where amazing .
Add Sensodyne and Compeed to the 1st aid kit – you can’t always get things when you need them. It was a very interesting and informative trip but it was unfortunate that we were touring Beijing on a weekend during the school holidays (lots of people!!)
