China

Was Du in China unbedingt probieren solltest:

1. Sichuan Hot Pot

Was kostet...?

Metrofahrt = 3 RMB

Erfrischungsgetränk = 3-5 RMB

Flasche Bier = 7-10 RMB

Einfaches Mittagessen = 15 RMB

A great trip and a great leader of the group. The altitude, the many steps up to some of the monasteries, a couple of long drives and the cold at Everest definately test the physical but having said that over half the small group of eleven were in their sixties.

Intrepid, you’ve excelled again! Our Trans- Siberian trip in May/June was a marvellous adventure from start to finish! Kristina, an excellent & enthusiastic young guide; our small group of like- minded travelling companions (age 21 – 71); ger camp in Mongolia; Lake Baikal and of course, the train journey itself were perfect ingredients for success. If this trip is on your bucket list ~ book it!

The title ‘China Highlights’ is completely justified – there are so many highlights on this trip and you get to see the main sights. Also the optional activities I did were cool. You will still have some time to relax if you don’t do all the optional activities. Jacky was an excellent tour leader who organised everything very well and answered all our questions patiently.

Was able to take a great vacation as a solo traveler without stressing about safety, planning, transportation or the language barrier. Met some great people and had an overall stress free time!! Would highly recommend to individuals that may be a bit nervous to travel long distances alone. Do not hesitate any longer about booking your dream trip.

Tour provides a unique and local daily experience and a great overview of China. Read the itineraries and prepare well. We took walking poles which were of great help during the walks on the Great Wall and Emei Shan. Eating as a group greatly enhanced our opportunities to sample and enjoy local cuisine. Great group and great tour which has given us many special memories.

This trip is ideal to actively see many of the main sights in China and be closer to day to day life of locals. It is a very active trip and those considering should carefully read the trip notes and understand what is involved , especially the train travel and hiking.

This trip was amazing! Pretty active, so if you love walking and hiking it will suit you. Travel is mostly by local buses and an overnight train which was a great experience. The itinerary had a good balance of activity, rest and time apart from the group to do your own thing.

A busy and highly rewarding short trip to China. An action packed trip that had us going from morning till night. With so much to see in each city, the included and suggested activities, not to mention the great food we had at every meal, coupled with our fantastic guide Jay resulted in a memorable trip to a wonderful country.

The China Experience gave a good over view of China’s cultural, food and infrastructure. The over night sleeper trains were a lot of fun and would not waste money upgrading to soft sleepers. An good overal experience.

From exciting cities like Beijing and Xi’an, to the breathtaking views of the Great Wall, to a peaceful buddhist monastery in the mountains, to a cruise down the Yangtze, to the beautiful scenery of Yangshuo – It’s really impressive that this trip encompasses such a wide variety of what mainland China has to offer.

Amazing itinerary and tour leader. Frankie was amazing all the way. Please do yourself a favor and upgrade from hard sleeper to soft sleeper train (at least on the second journey). The notes about physical fitness should be taken seriously as the hikes are quite long and can be steep. You will never find another tour that is better than this one to experience all China!

The China experience trip was a great, it included historical sites, staying in temples and hiking, visiting the Pandas and traveling overland. The food was absolutely awesome, we ate banquets nightly which meant sharing food. Alan, our leader, helped us order and without him it would’ve been a lot more difficult. Hardly anyone speaks English in China and this was challenging at times but if you have a cell phone with google translate, you can communicate with anyone and it makes life easier. This trip covers a lot of territory and gives you a good sense of the regions in China. It also exposes you to a lot of history and historical sites. I totally recommend it.

It was a great trip for my first adventure with Intrepid. 12 days was sufficient to give me a feel for it. The group was a good size – 16. Although any bigger may have been a headache in terms of travelling from A to B. The literature was true to its word when itinerary was printed.

This trip is incredible and you really won’t regret doing it! Was a wonderful glimpse into Chinese life and left me with a new love for many aspects of their culture. Chinese history is so fascinating and could have stayed for much much longer. In terms of tips – Pack light as you frequently lug your bag on travelling days. If you travel in September as we did you really don’t need to take much in terms of warm clothes as it was hot++. Perhaps just one warm top for the plane and transport with AC. You definitely need to have a good level of fitness as lots of walking, plus the long day walk to the monastery, and steps +++. Bring air plugs for sure, and tissues / toilet paper as many of the squat loos don’t provide this. And on that note be prepared for some very basic squat loos! We found extra snacks – muesli bars etc really helpful for travel days. Do it – you won’t regret it!

Intrepid tours are a full itinerary. On both of our trips we found it of great benefit to add days (in the same hotel) before and after the Intrepid trip in order to acclimatise and recover. As first time travellers to cities like Bangkok, Beijing and Hong Kong, it was great to arrive early and ‘get out heads ’round it all’.

This trip took us to some wonderful places but be prepared for a lot of travelling. It’s a lot of miles to cover. Great for people who want to see China’s best/biggest cities and tourist sights but there is not a lot for people who prefer more nature/countryside on these trips. You do not see any of the mystical/spiritual aspect of the country. The tourist destinations are impressive but very commercialized.

China Highlights really is that. It’s 8 days of seeing the absolute best that diverse China has to offer. You cover a lot of ground physically but the range of sights you get to see (not least of which the Great Wall and Terracotta Army) are mindblowing. The China Experience is a wonderful overview of the great sights and land marks in China but far too much time is wasted on travel where fast, clean bullet trains could of been utilised and we could of seen so much more for a small additional fare. These trips should NOT be arranged during Chinese Public Holidays as it is near impossible to see the sights without feeling engulfed in a flood of humanity.

The trans Mongolian trip is a fantastic way to see countries you dreamed about when you were a child. Never did I think that I would ever see a place like Moscow or Mongolia but there I was. This trip allowed me to see all this & more, so I would recommend this trip to anyone thinking about touring this part of the world. I felt completely safe on all occasions & the people of these countries were polite & helpful when needed. They also appeared be just as excited to see you, visiting them. The train was also a welcome rest break in the middle of the trip, which allowed a bit of extra sleep time or catching up on a book & also looking out the window at the magnificent landscape passing by. There are always some small niggles doing these sorts of trips, but they a minor compared to the memories you will have at the end of it. Money well spent

The Trans Siberian is an adventure of epic proportions and one not to be missed. The grandness of St Petersburg & Moscow is a fitting start. Mongolia is an absolute bonus on this journey and the final destination of Beijing a complete contrast to the rest of the trip and it makes a fascinating conclusion to the Itinery.

The train journey was very enjoyable. The best aspect of the whole trip was the way we where introduced to the Russian and Mongolian way of life. St. Petersburg, Suzdal and the massive Ghengis Khan statue/ museum where amazing .

the trans siberian/mongolian railway trip was everything I’d hoped it would be – the trains were on time, basically comfortable and stopped at a range of lovely local stations, the included activities were interesting and broke up the train travel very well. whilst border changes were hot and tedious, the experience wouldn’t have been the same without them! The Mongolian countryside is beautiful – I will be returning for more.

Wow – this was a trip of a lifetime. Be prepared for early starts and a hectic pace albeit everything was so Amazing! It was our first trip to China and using Intrepid so going on such an adventure with our 13year old daughter was a bit daunting but we had the most fantastic trip leader – Evan – and made our journey a lifetime memory. Don’t hestitate about booking – my advice is just to go for it and enjoy! The Historical sites were wonderful but we did lots of local activities such as Tai Chi, Bike Riding (superb),Visiting local market and cooking Chinese meal at cookery school, visiting Intrepid Foundation, walking in the local park and mingling with the locals, using so many different modes of transport including cable car, bullet train, sleeper train, ferry, tram, train – phew think the adrenaline kept us going! The meals also were great and our leader ensured that we tasted the specialities of the provinces which was wonderful. We feel most pivaleged that we had the opportunity to visit such a very special and inspiring country.

The Trans-Mongolian Experience from Moscow to Beijing via Ulan Bataar is an interesting experience, but probably not for the younger travellers. Because you’re stuck on a train for 1/3 of the trip, the group you’re with will make or break your experience. Make friends with other tourists/travellers doing the same trip for random encounters as you continue your journey!

At first I was reticent to go on an ‘organised tour’, but Intrepid just isn’t like that – it’s like an adventure with all the details taken care of and with a local to ask ‘what/why/how’ about all the things you see on the trip. The groups are small and the people like-minded – everyone’s there for the experience not the sheet thread count!

I felt that this trip (and the wonderful Pema) showed me what Buddhist life in Tibet was really like. This trip was great: true to the itinerary, informative, and a lot of fun. I will say that with the basic trip, although there are “optional activities” in each location, certain places with one or two main attractions (Huangshan and Hongcun in particular) require extra payment and although it is technically optional, your other option would be sitting in the guesthouse and doing nothing. Jenny was our enthusiastic, informative, approachable, and all-around incredible guide, so definitely request her if you can. I get the feeling all guides will try to sell you pretty hard on certain dinners and activities. Here are my recommendations: Walk the city wall in Xi’an, don’t pay extra to bike—the bikes have one speed and they’re pretty shoddy. Don’t do the Beijing Hutong tour. You can easily walk through the Hutongs and get the same experience (which I highly recommend). The only part that was worth it was the tea ceremony and you can seek that out on your own. There are a lot of scams out there, so do the official one at the Bell Tower. Definitely do the bike tour in Yangshuo. It’s beautiful there and the guide was awesome. The tea plantation and Li River cruise were also great. Do not do the cave tour / mud bath. It was a tourist trap and a waste of time. I opted out of it, but I heard the circus in Shanghai is great. Also opted out so I can’t speak to it, but I was told that the dumpling feast in Xi’an was a waste of money. Trip Advisor is your friend here—we were able to find a good restarant that served delicious dumplings for a quarter of the price. Overall, I definitely recommend the trip.

This is an excellent well tailored trip. The train trips are long but very comfortable – a good time to catch up on reading or gazing out the windows. Wifi is a bit spotty, so if you have a need to be in constant contact, this could be an issue. Pack as lightly as possible as you are moving your bag around. Our China family trip was a fantastic adventure that we will hold in our hearts and minds forever. I traveled with my 8 year old daughter, and we had a spectacular time. Everything was beautifully managed, our experiences were very authentic and special, the food was delicious, the people incredibly kind, and our guide and the hotels and our traveling companions were wonderful. Highlights were the bike ride and cooking school in Yanghshuo, the panda visit, the Terracotta warriors followed by the farmhouse lunch, walking on the great Wall of China, and the optional show we attended in Chengdu, where there was face changing and shadow puppetry. It was a very special trip. I recommend it highly.

it was really a complete diffdrent approach to explore China (e.g cooking class, cycling, panda nursery..). We think that you should do even more of that stuff and skip the so called “must have seem” spots like Tianamen, Forbidden City etc. The kids really liked the special stuff whereas the classic travelling is booring for them.

We really enjoyed travelling with intrepid. We felt like we got to see the real china, or at least as much as we could given we couldn’t speak the language in order to stay and mingle with the locals

Intrepid really gave me a full insight into life in China, not just the tourist areas. They take you off the beaten track, which made some wonderful memories. As a single traveller, I met lots of like minded people on my trip and we all became good friends. Tips- pack light as there is a lot of moving around so you’ll need to be able to walk to/from train stations etc with your bags.

The China Highlights is a very full on tour. It is non stop for the whole tour. Make sure that you allow additional days in both Shanghai and Beijing and you need them to see the key sites.

Traveling on the Trans-Mongolian Railway was an incredible experience. The trip was extremely well organised and there were many opportunities to engage in local culture and enjoy the local food. As a solo traveler I felt safe and able to enjoy the company of other travelers while also being able to have time to myself. The trip notes were very useful, I recommend that everyone read them.

Is someone asked if they should travel the Trans-Siberian / Trans-Mongolian railway My answer would be most definitely Yes. Be prepared to rough it a bit as well enjoying a bit of luxury. Have an open heart for new experiences, be flexible and pack lightly. You will have the experience of a lifetime.
